A WREATH FROM THE WOODS OF CAROLINA. Illustrated with Colored Engravings of Native Wild Flowers

New York: General Protestant Episcopal Sunday School Union and Church Book Society, 1859. 1st Edition. Hardcover. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Very Good. Item #8204

1st edition. A Very Good copy. Publishers deluxe brown cloth with elaborate gilt decoration, all edges gilt. 8vo., 154 pp, complete with eleven color plates including color title page, most with tissue guards in place. Bright, some moderate chipping to the spine cloth, most plates are lightly to moderately foxed, a few more heavily. The foxing seems, to have occurred because of the tissue guards. The book is tight but the binding was very prone to being shaken and this copy is very slightly so. Still, A Very Good copy.*** This is considered the first children's book written by a North Carolinian. It comes in at least two bindings, this being brown with elaborate gilt decoration. The other is blue with only the cover title in gilt and with no gilt edging. This has become a very difficult book to find, especially in this deluxe binding.***.
