Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. (1809-1894) was a celebrated writer, physician, and professor. He was a member of the "Fireside Poets" and is known for works like Old Ironsides and The Autocrat of the Breakfast-Table. He was also a medical reformer, notably raising awareness about puerperal fever.
