6 imprints of the Free Masons of Virginia, 1850-58. The 'Special Grand Communications' relate to the Washington Monument by Thomas Crawford being erected in Richmond. In particular, the Cornerstone of the monument, and the items that were to be placed within: a piece of Washington's mahogany coffin, Bible, Extracts from the Masonic Lodge in Fredericksburg from 1754 showing Washington's initiation, coins, medals, Charters and By-laws from early Virginia, portraits of George and Martha, etc. All six imprints show an interesting picture of early Virginian Freemasonry.
