1879 - 1880. Four volumes. Elegant period half morocco and marbled boards by R. W. Smith of New York, marbled end papers, all edges gilt. ix, 192 pp, 48 color plates; v, 200 pp including index, 48 color plates; 196 pp, 48 color plates; 196 pp, 48 color plates, all tissue guards save one present. The bindings are near Fine with some slight to moderate wear on the edges or tips, very tight, the plates are bright with two thirds having light to moderate foxing on the blank edges, one has a small amount of tissue guard adhered to it, that tissue guard has been removed. Small, handsome name plate in each volume. All in all a very nice set in a lovely binding. *** Thomas Meehan was a british-born Botanist and author; and long time editor of Gardener's Monthly (1859-1888) A complete set of both series with all of the plates. Included in Bennett's "Practical Guide to American Nineteenth Century Color Plate Books". ***.
