First edition, issue 2. 12mo., 324pp., illustrated with 14 plates. Publisher's original wraps, with image of alligator holding a sign in its mouth, with Exposition Edition at he bottom. The wrappers are bright, with little to no soiling or creasing, and contain the publisher's advertisements on the inside rear wrapper. The rear wrapper's fore-edge, overlaps the text block by 3/8th of an inch. This overlapping piece of the rear wrapper is creased and has tears. The first plate (frontis) is detatched. Plates are mildly age-toned, otherwise pages are clean and bright (except for the last 2 leaves, which have some light foxing). A Very Good copy in excellent wraps. Lacking the Map, as usual. ***Howes C-574: Hearn's name at foot of page 299-present. Map not issued in all copies.***.
